Profile

Mr. Steven Hayden is the Chief Engineer and Deputy Program Manager for the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) Division, MILSATCOM Systems Directorate, Space and Missiles Center, Los Angeles Air Force Base (LAAFB), CA. He is responsible for the acquisition and technical performance of the WGS satellites.

Lt Hayden started his Air Force career in 1988 at Hill AFB UT as part of the 545 Test Group managing the Utah Test and Training Range. During this assignment, he first worked as a Range Instrumentation engineer working sustainment and upgrades to range optical systems. Later he worked as test operations director in the Tri-Service Standoff Attack Missile program.

After cross training into the Intelligence field in 1995, Capt Hayden was assigned to HQ Air Force Space Command in the Space Control Mission Team.

After assignments in the Space Based Infrared Sensor (SBIRS) High Program office at Los Angeles AFB, SAF/AQR in the Pentagon as a Program Element Monitor in affordability and sustainment programs for the Air Force Research Lab, and as System Engineering Integration & Test (SEIT) Chief on the Transformational Satellite (TSAT) Mission Operations System (TMOS), in 2009, Mr Hayden was assigned to the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) program office as the Chief Engineer. He has supported production and transition of the final two Block I satellites, all three of the Block II satellites and currently completed production & transition of 3 of 4 satellites on the WGS 7-10 program. He originally worked in operations and sustainment of the Wideband constellation and then coordinated transition of that activity to Colorado Springs. He worked a major upgrade to the communications payload and is currently working a ground resiliency upgrade.
