Speaker(s)
Description
A robust and secure public safety communications capability is required to support Department of Defense emergency management and force protection programs, military support to civil authorities, and ongoing preparation for and response to critical events and standing mutual aid requests. The DoD Public Safety Communications Working Group is the designated advisory and action group on all matters pertaining to communications systems relevant to public safety, emergency management, and first responders. Its mission is to provide the ability to communicate at all times and under all circumstances to support the efforts to reduce loss of life and critical infrastructure, to protect the environment through collaboration, and to improve our capabilities to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards. This panel will discuss the goals to have sufficiently funded, standards-based, end-to-end, IP-based 9-1-1 capabilities within DoD, retire legacy 9-1-1 systems, and interconnect the civilian and military 9-1-1 systems, without any degradation in service.
