Profile
Captain Erik G. Pittman was born in Frankfurt, Germany and spent most of his childhood in Killeen, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1995 and a Master of Science in Management and Technology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2001. He was commissioned via the Nuclear Power Officer Candidate Program in 1995.
His operational tours include Commander, U. S. SEVENTH Fleet as the Director for Communications and Information Systems (N6) as well as Commander, Navy Forces Europe, Commander, Navy Forces Africa, Commander, U. S. SIXTH Fleet as Deputy Director for Communications and Information Systems He also served on USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) as the Assistant Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Combat Systems & Intelligence Systems (C5I) Officer supporting a Western Pacific deployment in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Enduring Freedom (OEF), exercises Dawn Blitz-10, Trident Warrior-10 and RIMPAC-10, and deployed as an individual augmentee to Afghanistan as the Lead Engineer and Executive Officer for Provincial Reconstruction Team, Khost stationed at Forward Operating Base Chapman in Khost Province supporting OEF. Prior to his lateral transfer into the Information Professional Community, he served on USS Springfield (SSN 761), USS Boston (SSN 703) and USS Olympia (SSN 717) as a Division Officer and USS Kentucky (SSBN 737)(BLUE) as the ship’s Navigator/Operations Officer and also deployed to Okinawa to act as the Naval Force Liaison Officer to III Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF) during the relief effort in the eastern Indian Ocean after the Boxing Day tsunami.
Ashore, he served with Headquarters, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command as the Deputy Director for Command, Control, Communications, and Cyber before moving up to the Deputy Chief of Staff position during the first 18 months of the COVID Pandemic Response. He also served at US Forces, Japan, where he served
as the Branch Chief for C4I Systems Planning and Engineering (J62), the Deputy Director for C4 Systems (J60), and acting J6. On the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV), he served as the Executive Assistant to the Director of Navy Networks. As a Submarine Officer, he served as the OPNAV N6 resource officer for the Navy’s afloat networks, and as the Assistant Chief of Naval Operations for Information Technology Resource Officer for the Navy’s Land-Based Networks. He also served as the Operations Officer at Commander, Submarine Squadron Seventeen, and as an instructor at Naval Submarine School for Target Motion Analysis, the Basic Officer Leadership Continuum, and the International Diesel Submarine Training Program.
Captain Pittman’s personal awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (four awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (four awards). He has had the privilege to serve in units that have been awarded the Joint Meritorious Unit Award (two awards), Army Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation (three awards), and the Battle Efficiency Award (two awards). In 2008, he was recognized by the Business Executives for National Security for his work in Afghanistan.
