Command Sergeant Major Jason Melton was born in Harbor City, CA and enlisted in the United States Army in 1999 as an Infantryman (11B) and reclassified to an Information Technology Specialist (25B) in 2009.
CSM Melton has held the following leadership positions: Infantry Team Leader, Infantry Squad Leader, Scout Team Leader, Battalion Liaison Officer, Platoon Sergeant, NATO Transmission Security NCOIC, First Sergeant, and G6 Operations Sergeant Major. In December 2023, CSM Melton assumed responsibility as the Command Sergeant Major for 59th Signal Battalion, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.
CSM Melton’s previous duty assignments include: A Co, 1stBn, 503rd Infantry Regiment, Camp Casey, Korea; A Co, 2nd Bn, 3rd Stryker BCT, 2nd Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, WA; Headquarters Company and A Co, 1st Bn, 14th Infantry Regiment (Golden Dragons), 2nd Stryker BCT, 25th Infantry Division; Headquarters Company and A Co, 62nd Expeditionary Signal Bn, 11th Signal Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas; Headquarters Company, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Benning, Georgia, the NATO Communication Information Agency, SHAPE, Belgium, USANEC-Belgium, 39th Signal Battalion, SHAPE, BE, 82nd Airborne Division G6, Fort Bragg, NC; and G6, I Corps Headquarters, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Wa. He has deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM – Philippines, and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM – Afghanistan.
CSM Melton’s military education include Warrior Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, U.S. Army Ranger School, U.S. Army Basic Airborne Course, U.S. Army Pathfinder Course, U.S. Army Air Assault Course, U.S. Army Equal Opportunity Leader Course, COMSEC Account Manager Course, and Local COMSEC Management Software Course. SGM Melton is a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, class 71, and the Pre-Command Course.
