Profile
Loren Johnson has been a military and civilian intelligence officer for more than 38 years with service in a variety of positions and organizations around the world.
Mr. Johnson was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in Military Intelligence upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1985 and spent the next 20 years as an Army intelligence officer. Key assignments include staff intelligence officer (S2 / G2) at battalion, brigade and division level in light infantry units, operations officer (S3 / AS3) for two military intelligence battalions, and company commander for a theater-level signals intelligence unit in Europe. He served in two joint assignments in U.S. Central Command and U.S. Pacific Command as well as a rotational joint assignment in Multi-National Force Iraq. In addition to Iraq, he had combat experience in Panama. He retired in 2006 as a Lieutenant Colonel to pursue a civilian career.
Mr. Johnson has worked as a civilian analyst in the PACOM/INDOPACOM Joint Intelligence Operations Center (JIOC) since January 2006, first as Senior Intelligence Officer in the JIOC’s Combating Terrorism Division and then as the JIOC’s Senior Intelligence Officer from 2008-2016. From July 2011 until September 2012, he filled the position of command Senior Defense Intelligence Analyst. In October 2016 he assumed duty as the first Chief of the J2 Director’s Action Group. In this position he advises and assists the INDOPACOM J2, provides executive intelligence support to the INDOPACOM Commander, and is a primary interface for providing intelligence assessments to senior decision makers and visitors to the command. Loren also plays a key role in the training and mentorship of the JIOC’s analysts and is INDOPACOM’s Ombudsman for Analysis.
In addition to his undergraduate degree from West Point, Mr. Johnson has a Masters Degree in Human Resource Development and is a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute.
He has been married for 34 years to Kate, a bicycling coach, professional clarinetist, and Ironman Triathlon World Championship finisher. They have two daughters, Amy, a professional opera and sacred singer, and Kathryn, who recently graduated college in Japan and now works in the hotel industry in Waikiki. Loren sings baritone in the Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble and enjoys watching and playing most sports.
