Profile
Senior Chief Shelmire is a native of Wellsboro, Pennsylvania and graduated from Wellsboro Area High School in Tioga County, PA in 2005. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in November 2005. Upon completion of Boot Camp in Great Lakes, IL he attended Personnel Specialist (PS) “A” School in Meridian, MS. His first assignment was onboard the USS Gettysburg (CG-64) home ported in Jacksonville, FL. Within seven months of checking onboard, all junior PS’s were transferred off the ship to Personnel Support Detachment Mayport. He served as a Personnel Clerk until July 2009. After receiving approval to cross-rate through the “Perform to Serve” program, he converted to the Cryptologic Technician Networks rating in 2009.
Senior Chief Shelmire reported to CTN “A” School and Basic Digital Network Analysis Course in July 2009 and successfully completed his training four months later. As a newly rated CTNSN, he reported to Navy Information Operations Command Pensacola (NIOC Pensacola) in November 2009 where he served as a Digital Network Analyst for three years. During his tour, he achieved his Enlisted Information Warfare Specialist pin and promoted to CTN2. Next, he reported to U.S. Fleet Cyber Command /Commander, U.S. 10th Fleet from October 2012 to November 2015. He had a highly successful tour as a Cyber Targeting Analyst and eventually achieved Senior Sailor of the Year and selection for Chief Petty Officer (FY-16).
After his flag-duty tour, he reported back to NIOC Pensacola / 600 Combat Support Team (600 CST) as a newly pinned Chief Petty Officer in November 2015. He served as the 600 CST Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL) and qualified as a Cyber Mission Force Cyber Planner.
Following his tour in Pensacola, Senior Chief Shelmire assumed duties as a Department LCPO, National Mission Team (NMT) SEL, and Directorate SEL from November 2018 to February 2022 at Cyber Strike Activity SIXTY THREE. He was selected for advancement to Senior Chief Petty Officer in June 2019.
Senior Chief Shelmire assumed his current duties as an Offensive Cyber Operations Planner at Fleet Cyber Command Pacific within the INDOPACOM Cyber Operations Integrated Planning Element (CO-IPE) in April 2022.
He has a B.A. in Organizational Management from Ashford University and a M.S. in Cyber Security and Information Assurance from Western Governor’s University. Additionally, he has earned the following decorations: Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal, and various other personal and unit awards.
