Angel Smith joined the Microsoft Azure Global Engineering team in March 2021. As Partner of the Mission Solutions & Customer Expansion (MSCE) team, Angel is responsible for building hyperscale cloud infrastructure around the world to support commercial industry and government adoption of cloud for their most complex workloads. Angel partners across all organizational levels of Microsoft focused on establishing a multi-year roadmap and strategy for Mission customers globally. Her success is measured by her ability to build connective tissue and drive optimal alignment with key stakeholders to accelerate the adoption of Azure’s Mission platform globally.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Angel served as the President of Advanced Payloads and Deliverables at Meta Special Aerospace in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. In this role, Angle led the design, development, production, integration, testing, marketing, and deployment of leap-ahead best of breed MAISR, SIGINT, EW, Cyber and C3 payloads for platform agnostic manned and unmanned platforms that deliver actionable intelligence at the tactical edge. Angel has also served as a Senior Professional Staff member on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. As the program monitor for the Department of Defense (DoD) Intelligence and Overhead Architecture Subcommittee, Angel monitored various IC agencies as well as DoD military intelligence programs with emphasis on Special Operations Intelligence programs.

Before her time on Capitol Hill, Angel served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. She enlisted in December 1993 serving as an aviation radio technician. In December 2000, she earned her commission, later attending flight training and earning her aviation wings in November 2002. Subsequently, she was ordered for initial training in the KC-130 aircraft. While in the fleet operational forces, her most notable billet assignments have included KC-130 Detachment Commander in support of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, Detachment Commander in support of Operation Damayon, VMGR-352 Aircraft Maintenance Commander and Deputy Directory, Marine Corps Liaison to the House of Representatives. Angel has enjoyed extended deployments to Banda Aceh, Indonesia, and Colombo, Sri Lanka in support of tsunami relief operations, Southern Leyte, Philippines in support of humanitarian assistance operations, Camp Bastion, Afghanistan and Djibouti, Africa in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

Angel holds a BS in Social Psychology, MS in International Relations, MS in Philosophy, and a PhD in Organizational Psychology. She is an adjunct professor at Georgetown University focusing on AI/ML government policy and ethics.
