Profile

Mr. Rago is a native of Chicago, Illinois, and a graduate of Illinois State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Sciences with particular emphasis on sociological and psychological criminal behaviors.
In 2010, Mr. Rago transferred within the San Antonio Division to head up the Joint Terrorism Task Force for the Austin Resident Agency, where he focused on the prevention of International and Domestic Terrorism. Mr. Rago managed the JTTF in the aftermath of the Nidal Hasan shooting on Ft. Hood as well as several other high profile Terrorism investigations.
In 2012, Mr. Rago was promoted to Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) for Oklahoma City Division and managed the Intelligence, Weapons of Mass Destruction, HUMINT, Critical Incident, and Surveillance Programs.
In 2014, Mr. Rago assumed the position of ASAC for National Security for the Oklahoma City Division and, as such, was responsible for all Counterintelligence, Cyber, and Counterterrorism investigations. He also served as the Commander of the SWAT Team.
In 2016, Mr. Rago was promoted to Section Chief of the Global Operations Section, CJIS Division West Virginia. The section comprised six units, National Threat Operations Center, Global Initiatives Unit (GIU), Biometric Center of Excellence (BCOE), Special Identities Unit (SIU), Multimedia Exploitation Unit (MXU), and CJIS Division Intelligence Group (CDIG). In that capacity Mr. Rago led the creation and Pilot of the Iris identification biometric program, as well as the implementation of the Mobile Biometric application nationwide.
In 2019, Mr. Rago transferred within the CJIS Division as the Section Chief of the Global Law Enforcement Support Section. The section comprised eight units, CJIS Audit Unit (CAU), Crime Statistics Management Unit (CSMU), Global Initiatives Unit (GIU), National Data Exchange Unit (N-DEx), NCIC Operations and Policy Unit (NOPU), Online Services and Operations Unit (OSOU), Programs Research and Standards Unit (PRSU), Special Identities Unit (SIU). Mr. Rago Served as the 2019 Chairman of the Biometric International Law Enforcement Group 5 (BILEG5).
In 2020, Mr. Rago transferred within the CJIS Division as the Section Chief of the Biometric Services Section. The Section comprised seven units, Biometric Identification and Analysis unit (BIAU), Face Comparison and Evaluation Services Unit (FACEU), Criminal History Information & Policy Unit (CHIPU), Biometric Support Unit (BSU), Customer Support Unit (CSU), Quality Improvement Unit (QIU), and Identity Management Unit (IMU).
Prior to joining the FBI, Mr. Rago served ten years as a Police Officer, Detective and Supervisor for the Annapolis City Police Department, Annapolis Maryland. Mr. Rago is a Maryland Police Training Commission Certified Police Instructor and Firearms Instructor. He and his wife have been married since 1991 and they have two sons.
