Sylvia Burns joined the FDIC as Deputy Chief Information Officer for Enterprise Strategy in September 2018. The DCIO supports the CIO in establishing the mission, vision, and priorities in enterprise strategy with a focus on Strategy and Performance, Enterprise Architecture, Governance and Policy to help develop a path towards a business-oriented culture and mindset. Since she joined the FDIC, Ms. Burns helped to update and publish a new CIO Organization Strategic Plan, as well as a 5-year IT Modernization Plan to meet the FDIC’s dynamic business needs. Ms. Burns leads the Federal CIO Council interagency Zero Trust (ZT) initiative. The group is working with the National Institute of Standards and Technology to develop a Reference Architecture and playbook in collaboration with industry. Ms. Burns was recently appointed to serve as the FDIC’s Chief Data Officer. She was previously the CIO of the Department of the Interior.
