Profile

Rear Adm. Susan BryerJoyner is a native of Savannah, Georgia. She received her commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering. She also holds a Master of Science in Computer Science from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Science in Government Information Leadership from the Information Resources Management College at National Defense University.

Her operational tours include deployments to the high north and Norwegian Seas for the Navy’s first Dynamic Force Employment deployment and to the Mediterranean and Arabian Seas, the Western and South Pacific Ocean, and Iraq in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and Tomodachi.

Fleet assignments include Carrier Strike Group 8 embarked onboard USS George Washington (CVN 73); U.S. 7th Fleet; USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19); and Carrier Strike Group 8 embarked on USS Harry S Truman (CVN 75).

Shore assignments include the Department of Defense; the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations; Hopper Information Services Center, Naval Network Warfare Command; Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station, Mediterranean; and Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, Far East.

Joint tours include U.S. Pacific Command; Joint Warfare Analysis Center; MultiNational Force Iraq; and U.S. Cyber Command.

As a flag officer, she served as the Navy Enterprise Networks and Cybersecurity Division Director, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations.

She is the recipient of various personal, unit, and campaign awards including the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit Medal (four awards), Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), and Navy Meritorious Service Medal (three awards). She was a recipient of the Copernicus Award in 2001 and 2006, and is a proud Plank Owner of the Information Professional Community and the Naval Network Warfare Command.
