Mr. Jeffrey R. Jones is the Executive Vice President for By Light Professional IT Services and is responsible for integrating the company’s DoD, Federal, and Commercial cyber initiatives, from strategic to tactical, across the enterprise. Most recently, Mr. Jones was a member of the DoD’s Senior Executive Service, and served as the Vice Director, Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4)/Cyber and Deputy Chief Information Officer, Joint Chiefs of Staff/J6. In that role, he was responsible for providing advice and recommendations to the Director, J6, and the Combatant Commands (CCMDs) on all C4/Cyber, Space, PNT, Transport, allied and coalition interoperability development and assessments, as well as defensive cyberspace matters.
Prior to serving with the Joint Staff, Mr. Jones served as the Executive Director, Joint Force Headquarter-Department of Defense Information Network (JFHQ-DODIN), United States Cyber Command. In this role, he advised and assisted the Commander and Deputy Commander in executing global command and control of DODIN and defensive cyberspace operations, as well as, synchronizing these efforts with Combatant Commands, Service Cyber Components, DoD Agencies, and Field Activities. Mr. Jones' responsibilities also included strategic engagements, resource management, and capability development.
Mr. Jones served with US Army Cyber Command on two separate occasions. From July 2016 to February 2019, he was the Chief of Staff for the Army Cyber Command’s Joint Force Headquarters – Cyber (JFHQ-C). In this role, he managed the daily operations of the JFHQ-C, which provided SIGINT/Cyber support to assigned combatant commands and mission command of over 600 cyber mission force personnel. From May 2011 to July 2014, Mr. Jones served as Chief of Operational Capabilities and Requirements for US Army Cyber Command. In this position, he established and led the Division charged with assessing, defining, articulating and advocating for cyberspace operational requirements.
Between his periods of service with US Army Cyber Command, Mr. Jones attended the US Army War College in Carlisle, PA from July 2014 – June 2015. Immediately afterwards, from June 2015 – July 2016, Mr. Jones served as the Cyber Test and Training Director at the Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) in Orlando, Florida. In this role, he was the principal advisor to the Program Executive Officer on cyber strategy and operations related to test and training systems.
Mr. Jones holds a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the US Army War College, a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from James Madison University, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi. Mr. Jones is also an Officer in the Army Reserve and previously served as the Chief of Staff for Special Operations, Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (Forward) element in Baghdad.
