Profile
Leslie (Les) South is a seasoned and highly experienced data network and information security professional with a strong technical background built by 26+ years of operational experience. Currently serving as the Risk Management Division Chief, Mr. South is humbled to lead an outstanding group of professionals who execute the Security Control Assessor mission for the U.S. Army and are the subject matter experts for all things Cyber Risk Management.
Prior to his current position, Mr. South served as the Army Enterprise Mission Assurance Support Service (eMASS) capability manager in the Army Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM) Cybersecurity Directorate. He was responsible for creating, publishing and teaching operational procedures for implementing the Risk Management Framework (RMF) throughout the Army.
Prior to joining NETCOM, Mr. South served as the certification & accreditation subject matter expert for the Information Systems Engineering Command (ISEC) from 2010 to 2015. Mr. South entered Civil Service with more than 14 years of network engineering and information security experience in the commercial telecommunications, financial and software sectors.
Mr. South holds a Bachelor of Science in cybersecurity and information assurance from Western Governors University and many industry-recognized certifications, including the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) with a concentration in Information System Security Engineering (ISSEP), Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) and the Certified Authorization Professional (CAP).
