Douglas Steinbaum

Lead Engineer, Big Data Platform (BDP)

Profile

Douglas Steinbaum is currently the Lead Engineer for BDP at DISA. In this role, he is leading the migration of both BDP and its DevOps environment from on-premise to cloud environments. Previously, he oversaw the development of the BDP baseline and its integration with DISA analytics. The BDP is a common distributed computing solution capable of ingesting, processing, sharing, and visualizing multiple petabytes of data from DoD Information Network (DoDIN) sources.

Mr. Steinbaum began his career in the DoD in 1989 as an electronics engineer at the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL). There, he served as the project lead and engineer responsible for piloting network intrusion detection systems (NIDS) on ashore and afloat platforms. He joined DISA in 2001 as a computer engineer. At DISA, he has held a variety of positions related to cyber security, including that of PM and Lead Architect for the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) project, DISA’s seminal computer/network attack data aggregation and correlation tool.
Mr. Steinbaum holds a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He previously earned a Defense Acquisition University Level III Engineering Certified Acquisition Professional certification and holds current Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Security+ certifications.
