 Press Releases

  • Miami, FL – Aug. 24, 2021 - Appgate, the secure access company, has been named by Forrester Research, a leading global research and advisory firm, a Leader in The Forrester New Wave™: Zero Trust Network Access, Q3 2021.

In the report Forrester states: “[Appgate] is the best fit for companies that need high security and a self-hosted option. Appgate offers its Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) as a SaaS, but also as a self-hosted option for enterprises and agencies that need it. Its cryptographic single packet authorization (SPA) can make for a supertight network defense posture.”

Appgate was evaluated amongst 15 vendors identified by Forrester as the most significant providers in the ZTNA category. Appgate received a differentiated rating, the highest possible, in six criteria, including deployment flexibility, non-web and legacy apps, ecosystem integration, client support, connector capabilities and product vision.

“Cyberthreats are adapting to the dynamic ways in which people work, making it imperative for organizations to implement a Zero Trust security strategy,” said Barry Field, CEO, Appgate. “ZTNA, and Appgate SDP, is the foundational first step and sets the course for success – it’s why our customers rated us 9.5 out of 10 in terms of importance to their Zero Trust strategy. Whether your network resources are in the cloud or on-site, Appgate adapts to globally distributed users, devices and hybrid IT helping to future-proof your IT environment. We believe being named a Leader in this category by Forrester underscores our commitment to help organizations modernize their security to align with Zero Trust architecture.”

Features of Appgate SDP, an industry-leading ZTNA solution, include:

    • Strengthening security by reducing risk and increasing security controls for all users and workloads wherever they reside
    • Reducing complexity by simplifying security operations, configuration, management and compliance
    • Improving user experience and productivity by reducing IT support requests and accelerating business processes
    • Streamlining automation, embracing security-as-code for more agile and rich integrations via bidirectional APIs and boosting operational efficiency via automated deployment and scaling without manual security controls or firewall configurations

Forrester also says in the report, “[Appgate] offers exceptional integration with services like ITSM and CMDB. Appgate is one of the few vendors in this space specializing in ZTNA without taking on the entire Zero Trust Edge (ZTE/SASE) security model directly. Appgate delivers its security and business value through distributed policy-enforcement points that integrate with solutions like ServiceNow.”

  • Rackspace Government Cloud to provide Appgate SDP solution in a FedRAMP Joint Authorization Board (JAB)-approved Platform as a Service environment.

MIAMI, FL – Sept. 21, 2021 – Appgate, the secure access company, today announced plans to deliver its market-leading Zero Trust Network Access solution, Appgate SDP, as a service to U.S. government entities via a FedRAMP Joint Authorization Board (JAB)-approved environment. Through a partnership with Rackspace Government Solutions (RGS), Appgate SDP will be made available as an additional service offering within Rackspace Government Cloud, a managed security and compliance platform. Government agencies will be able to leverage an industry-leading Zero Trust Network Access solution in securing their diverse, hybrid IT environments.

“Zero Trust is becoming increasingly essential in the public sector, as highlighted in the recent Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity,” said Barry Field, Appgate CEO. “Appgate SDP can help government entities meet requirements to achieve a Zero Trust security posture by ensuring secure access to the cloud in a FedRAMP-approved environment.”

Under the new partnership with RGS, government agencies will soon be able to secure their complex, distributed hybrid IT ecosystems with Appgate SDP, an enterprise-grade ZTNA solution. Utilizing the principles of Zero Trust, Appgate SDP dynamically creates one-to-one network connections between users and the resources they are explicitly authorized to access. Appgate SDP complies with and extends beyond the three core principles of the Cloud Security Alliance’s software-defined perimeter specifications.

“The ability to offer Appgate SDP as a service meets the demand of our federal government customers and our partner ecosystem,” said Ned Miller, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Appgate’s Federal Division. “Appgate offers the most flexible deployment models for any ZTNA technology in its class. Our prospects, customers and partners will soon be able to deploy Appgate SDP on premises, in a private cloud, in a government-approved cloud, as a managed service in a government-owned location or remotely from a FedRAMP-approved environment.”

Appgate SDP offers a full spectrum of user access options, including clients with integrated user interfaces (UIs) and non-UI or “headless” clients to always-on clients and zero-install clientless using a standard web browser. Its benefits include:

    • Unified ZTNA platform for users, servers and IoT
    • Ability to control all access to all resources with a single, dynamic policy model
    • Secure remote access for employees, systems and third-parties
    • Simplified, consistent policy administration

“Offering unrivaled FedRAMP expertise, Rackspace Government Solutions has held FedRAMP Moderate Joint Authorization Board (JAB) authorization since 2015, as well as DoD Impact Level 4 and DFARS/CMMC attestations. We offer solutions that comply with FISMA, ITAR, Section 889, and HIPAA standards, to name just a few,” said Brad Schulteis, Senior Director of Rackspace Government Solutions. “We are very pleased to be working with Appgate and delivering a world-class ZTNA as a Service solution in support of our mutual US government customers.”

  • Appgate SDP
Supporting the DoD Zero Trust Strategy with Appgate SDP - Identity-Centric, Network Enforced Perimeter Security...

  • WHAT IS APPGATE SDP?
Appgate SDP is a Zero Trust Network Access platform providing contextaware/ conditional-based access, continuous device posture checking, cryptographic micro-segmentation, dark networking/cloaking users and resources, network access control and secure access from anywhere. Appgate SDP can immediately address the traffic congestion at the IAPs and VPNs, by directly connecting users to multiple resources simultaneously. This shatters the VPN model of a user creating an isolated tunnel to a single point in the network, then having their traffic inefficiently “hair-pin” through dozens of hops to get to the appropriate resource. Users will have multiple intelligently created paths for secure direct access to resources (CNAP) completely unburdening the IAPs and VPN chokepoints.

Directly connecting users is only achievable because of Appgate’s patented zero trust approach to security. Appgate SDP’s foundation is API-driven and
is designed to be integrated. Appgate SDP is natively identity/data-centric and uses device, user identity, role, attributes, tags\labels, meta-data, location, time, risk scores, etc. Appgate SDP’s context-aware, conditionalbased policies integrates fully into the existing ecosystem of tools and capabilities to harden the DODIN.

APPGATE SDP ENABLES SECURE ACCESS TO THE CLOUD & ON-PREM
The Department of Defense (DoD) is rapidly adapting to meet the surging demand for secure access from anywhere to resources in cloud and onpremise. The increased connectivity requirements, to ensure the warfighter remains mission effective, has resulted in replicating the existing DODIN infrastructure, increasing the overall complexity and cost. The current architecture is unable to directly connect users to the appropriate resources securely and take full advantage of the suite of existing security capabilities. In order to maximize the lethality of the warfighter, the DoD executed the DoD Cloud Strategy:

“Cloud is a fundamental component of the global infrastructure that will empower the warfighter with data and is critical to maintain our military’s technological advantage” [and the DoD will] “seek the active participation and commitment of all DoD Components to realize the benefits of cloud” - DoD Cloud Strategy, December 2018

As the DoD moves to cloud, the methodology to access cloudhosted resources must also adapt.

A next generation boundary must be established with principles
rooted in Zero Trust. Cloud Native Access Point (CNAP) provides the warfighter timely, secure and mission-relevant data at any time and from any network.
Appgate’s Software-Defined Perimeter (SDP) is the enabling Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) technology in the CNAP architecture. Appgate SDP directly addresses security and performance challenges to connect the warfighter directly to cloud-hosted or on-premises resources; enabling the DoD to maintain information superiority.
