    Speaker(s)

    Speaker (confirmed)
    Kenneth J. Garofalo
Lead, IPv6 Virtual Program Management Office
    Defense Information Systems Agency

    Description

Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is the Internet's next generation communications protocol designed to replace the current protocol due to a shortage of IPv4 addresses.  IPv6 solves this problem with 340 undecillion (1 followed by 36 zeros) addresses.  Join us as Mr. Ken Garofalo, the DISA lead for the IPv6 virtual Program Management Office, discusses the collaborative approach DISA is taking to ensure DISA meets its IPv6 implementation goals and objectives while supporting DOD strategic goals across the DOD Components.  The primary DISA goal is to establish IPv6-only for the non-classified internet protocol network (NIPRNet) and eventually the secret internet protocol router network (SIPRNet).  DISA will deploy an interim dual stack IPv4/IPv6 capability to allow legacy H/W and S/W capabilities to transition over the next few years in an orderly and affordable approach, using technical refresh and modernization funding, where possible.  Mr. Garofalo will provide details on DISA's IPv6 policy, strategy, and implementation plans to meet its DOD customer's mission needs during the transition.  He will include an update on IPv6 Limited Deployment Expansion pilots to date, and the importance to achieving approvals for LDE use on the network.  During this session, you'll benefit from learning more about IPv6 DISA programmatic efforts to facilitate the transition from IPv4 to IPv6, and the way ahead toward IPv6-only capabilities for DOD users.
