Profile

Colonel Sanderson is currently serving as the Director of Plans (G5) at Headquarters, I Corps, where he is responsible for operational planning, security cooperation planning, and competition planning for the headquarters in support of Indo Pacific Command’s Theater Strategy. Prior to his current assignment, COL Sanderson served as the Chief of Joint Operational War Plans Development in the Joint Staff J5, where he was responsible for the coordination of all operational plans in the Department of Defense.

Colonel Sanderson’s former assignments include U.S. Pacific Command, U.S. Africa Command, the NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan, the Southern European Task Force /U.S. Army Africa, the U.S. Military Training Mission, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; and various Infantry assignments at the division, brigade, battalion, and company level.

Colonel Sanderson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Mississippi State University, and a Master’s of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Navy War College. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College, where he completed a fellowship at Georgetown University as adjunct faculty. He also holds multiple military and interagency planning and strategy certifications.
