Profile
Dr. David Bolme leads the Identity Science Program (IDS) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and serves as the group leader for the Human Analysis and Biometrics research group. He earned his B.S. (2000), M.S. (2003), and Ph.D. (2011) in Computer Science from Colorado State University (CSU). With national recognition as an esteemed expert in biometrics, machine learning, and identity science, Dr. Bolme joined Oak Ridge National Laboratory in July 2012, where he played a pivotal role in co-founding the Identity Science Program alongside Hector Santos-Villalobos. This program boasts an annual budget exceeding $10 million and harnesses the expertise of 35 matrixed staff members.
With a prolific career, Dr. Bolme holds an impressive portfolio of accomplishments. He possesses eight patents, authored eight journal articles and a book chapter, and has contributed to almost 50 conferences and workshops. Moreover, Dr. Bolme has been instrumental in initiating six open-source projects focused on face recognition and computer vision.
Dr. Bolme's journey into biometrics research commenced at CSU, particularly in the realm of face recognition evaluation. During this period, he made significant contributions to several government face recognition evaluation projects, including Face Recognition Technology (FERET), Face Recognition Grand Challenge (FRGC), and Face Recognition Vendor Tests (FRVT). His recent research endeavors converge artificial intelligence and computational imaging techniques to surmount the limitations of off-the-shelf systems. This innovative approach has led to the development of groundbreaking technologies, including those for standoff biometrics, driver recognition, and various unique biometric sensors and systems.
