Governor Reynolds appointed Mark Lowe as director of the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) on May 26, 2017. Before taking this position, Mark served as the Iowa DOT’s general counsel from 2008 to 2009, and as its Motor Vehicle Division director from 2009 to 2016, and as its interim director from November 29, 2016, to the date of his appointment by Governor Reynolds. Before entering state government, Mark was an associate and then shareholder with the law firm of Hopkins & Huebner, P.C. in Des Moines.
Mark served on the board of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) from 2010 to 2016, serving as its chair in 2014 to 2015. He is currently on the board and executive committee of the American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials (AASHTO), and is the president of the Mid-American Association of State Transportation Officials (MAASTO).
Mark and his wife Linda live in West Des Moines, Iowa, and have four grown children.
