Profile

Mr. Alexander is Deputy Administrator of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and Director of the Center for Program Integrity. He is responsible for overseeing the creation, implementation and management of federal policy aimed at identifying program vulnerabilities and preventing fraud, waste and abuse within the Medicare and Medicaid programs. He also oversees all CMS interaction and collaboration with law enforcement relating to program integrity, including the Department of Justice (DOJ), HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG), state law enforcement agencies, and other federal entities.
Before coming to CMS in December of 2017, Mr. Alexander was in private law practice representing a wide-range of healthcare providers in administrative, civil, and criminal matters.
Mr. Alexander also worked for several years as an attorney and hospital system executive where he had multiple responsibilities including Chief Compliance Officer.
Between 2002 and 2010, Mr. Alexander served as an Assistant United States Attorney prosecuting health care fraud cases. In that capacity he was trained as a member of the first formal DOJ-OIG Health Care Fraud Strike Force class in 2009.
