COL Steven R. Simmons Jr. is a native of Brockton, Massachusetts, and he received his commission as a Field Artillery Officer in 2003. He became a Cyber Warfare Officer in 2017 and most recently served as the Director of Operations for the Joint Force Headquarters (Army) - Cyber. COL Simmons has served in command and staff positions across the Army with assignments in the United States, the Republic of Korea, and Iraq.

COL Simmons is a graduate of the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Information Systems Management Course, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College (Common Core), and the U.S. Army War College.

COL Simmons’ awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (with oak leaf cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with three oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (with four oak leaf clusters), Iraq Campaign Medal (with 2 Campaign Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Parachutist Badge and the Combat Action Badge.
