MAJ Nelson Godbolt is a native of Whitehall, MT and graduated from Concordia College in 2011 where he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry. He transferred to the Electronic Warfare Functional Area in 2017, before joining the Cyber Branch later that year.
MAJ Godbolt’s initial assignment was with the 2nd Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM) where he served as a Platoon Leader, AS3, and Brigade Planner. In 2017 MAJ Godbolt arrived at Fort Carson, CO to serve as the 1/4 Stryker Brigade Combat Team Cyber and Electromagnetic Warfare Officer (CEWO). While deployed to Afghanistan he served as the Chief of Operations for Train, Advise, Assist Command, East. MAJ Godbolt returned to JBLM in 2019 to serve as the Security Force Assistance Brigade CEWO as it was stood up and conducted its first deployment into USINDOPACOM. In 2022 MAJ Godbolt moved to Georgia to serve as the Senior Instructor for Cyber Captain’s Career Course. In 2025 MAJ Godbolt served as 5th Expeditionary Cyber Team Leader with 11th Cyber Battalion.
MAJ Godbolt holds a Bachelor’s of Art in History from Concordia College. His military education includes the Infantry Officers Basic Course, Maneuver Captains Career Course, Electromagnetic Warfare Officer Qualification Course, and Command and General Staff Officers Course.
MAJ Godbolt’s awards include the Bronze Star (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4OLC), and the Army Achievement Medal (3OLC).
MAJ Godbolt is married to the former Shelby McFarland. They have two children, Eleanor and Lillian.
