Sergeant Major (SGM) Richard Mustard is a native of Kentucky. He entered the United States Army in August 1997 after earning his high school diploma from Franklin-Simpson High School in Franklin, KY. He enlisted in the U.S Army and attended Basic Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, Georgia.

Battalion S6 NCOIC, 508th MP BN, Camp Taji, Iraq, Brigade S6 NCOIC, 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, Brigade S6 NCOIC, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, First Sergeant, Charlie Company, 307th Engineer Battalion, and Headquarters and Headquarters Company 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Operations Sergeant Major 50th Signal Battalion, TAC C4 Chief Signal NCO, U.S. Army Forces Command, 82nd Airborne Division G6 Sergeant Major, and XVIII Airborne Corps G6 Sergeant Major.
