IT Specialist
U.S. Army Cyber Command

Profile

Mareno Mckenzie is a DA Civilian Army Fellow currently serving at U.S. Army Cyber Command (ARCYBER), where he contributes to the G6. Mareno joined the DA Civilian Army Fellows Rising Leaders Development Program in May 2024 and is currently focused on developing expertise in Information Technology (IT).
Mareno’s journey into IT took an unconventional route. He initially attended Coppin State University in Baltimore, where he studied Elementary Education, but midway through his degree program, he decided Elementary Education was not his passion and began learning about IT. While he did not graduate college and earn a degree, he did study for and obtain his Security+ certification which is a requirement for IT and opened the door to new opportunities.
Prior to joining ARCYBER, Mareno worked as a contractor for 10 years, spending 8 years in Maryland and 2 years in Georgia as a contractor. Mareno has a diverse professional background and outstanding customer service skills, including Physical Security, Desktop Support Specialist, and Tier 1 and 2 Systems Administrator which has prepared him for his current role in the Army Fellows Program.
Outside of work, Mareno enjoys spending time with his wife and children, playing and coaching basketball, and mentoring youth, which reflect his commitment to personal growth and community engagement. In his free time, Mareno is passionate about traveling, outdoor activities, and gardening/landscaping which help him maintain a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle.
