Profile
Dr. Michael Nowatkowski is a Professor, Head of the Cyber Programs of Study, and Director of the Cyber Institute at the Augusta University School of Computer and Cyber Sciences. He holds a PhD and Master of Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Michael joined Augusta University in 2016 after serving over 26 years as a Signal Corps and Cyber Branch officer in the U.S. Army, including eight years teaching at the United States Military Academy at West Point. He leads the current Augusta University efforts on Center of Academic Excellence (CAE) programs, the Department of Defense Cyber Service Academy (DoD CSA), the National Science Foundation CyberCorps® Scholarship for Service (SFS), the Virtual Internship and Varied Innovative Demonstrations (VIVID) Coalition, and the DoD Virtual Institutes for Cyber and Electromagnetic Research and Employ (VICEROY) award. Since joining the faculty at Augusta University in 2016, he has received over $7.76 million in grants and awards. Michael is a mentor and advisor for an international internship program with the Military Academy of Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan in France. Over the past four years, he mentored eight senior French cadets for their graduation research thesis requirement in the area of industrial control systems cybersecurity. His research interests include industrial control system security, medical device security, electronics, and cyber operations education.
