CW5 Yrume Fernandez serves as the Command Chief Warrant Officer (CCWO) for the U.S.
Army Cyber Protection Brigade, where he is the senior technical advisor to the brigade
commander, staff, and subordinate units. In this role, he provides expert guidance on all
matters related to Defensive Cyberspace Operations (DCO), with a focus on training,
equipping, and ensuring the operational readiness of the force. His leadership helps shape
the brigade's long-term strategy for cyber defense, ensuring it remains agile and adaptive to
the rapidly evolving threat landscape.

CW5 Fernandez began his distinguished military career in 1992 as a 31U (Signal Support
Systems Specialist) and transitioned to the Warrant Officer Cohort in 2005 as a 254A
(Signal Systems Support Technician). Over the course of his career, he has served in
multiple assignments at the tactical, operational, and strategic levels, including
deployments to Kosovo (KFOR4A) and Iraq (OIF-6, OIF-7, OIF-9, and OND-11). His extensive
experience spans several Military Occupational Specialties (MOSs), including 255A
(Information Services Technician), 255N (Network Management Technician), and his
current role as a 170A (Cyber Warfare Technician). In addition to his operational expertise,
CW5 Fernandez is a dedicated scholar and lifelong learner. He holds a bachelor’s degree in
Computer Information Systems Science (Magna Cum Laude) and an associate degree in
Computer Studies, both from the University of Maryland University College (UMUC). His
academic achievements complement his technical and leadership skills, enabling him to
bridge the gap between technology and mission success.
