Description

As medical devices are developed with more functionality, more connectivity, and more parts from a wide variety of sources, the potential vulnerabilities associated with the items increase.  Developing a repeatable framework for cyber assessments on medical devices is necessary to improve the confidence that vulnerabilities can be detected so that appropriate mitigations can be put in place while using the devices.  A comprehensive cyber assessment that uses an interdisciplinary approach to investigate medical devices holistically is needed to detect vulnerabilities.  This assessment will combine aspects of a variety of different assessment tools and frameworks to develop a comprehensive assessment of devices that includes using Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) to analyze the supply chain for the devices, and analysis of physical access, hardware, software, firmware, network communications, radio frequency emissions, and user interfaces to conduct a security assessment for the purpose of identifying potential vulnerabilities.
