CW3 Rankin serves as the Defensive Cyberspace Operations (DCO) Branch Chief for Army Capability Manager for Cyberspace Operations since August 2023. He is also dual-hatted as the Senior Technical Advisor for ACM-Cyber.
Prior to his current assignment, he was BDE FUOPS Planner for Cyber Protection Brigade (CPB) S3 for 20 Cyber Protection Teams (CPTs).
He has served in multiple leadership positions at the Tactical, Strategic, and Joint Levels. While at CPB from 2019 to 2023, CW3 Rankin deployed ISO multiple real-world operations in several countries as crew lead for 151 CPT and Cyber Warfare Planner for 503 CPT. Besides BDE FUOPS, he also served as 1st Bn S3 FUOPS Planner for 10 CPTs. He is a 170A (Cyber Warfare Technician) WO-ILE Graduate.
From 2017 to 2019, CW3 Rankin served as the Senior Intelligence Warrant for 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command in Daegu, South Korea. He also served as G2 Plans Intel Planner from 2016 to 2017 for Eighth Army at USAG Yongsan in Seoul, South Korea while overseeing over 25 theater level combined exercises. Prior to that, he also served in Uijeongbu, South Korea from 2015 to 2016 for 2ID as their G2 Ops Senior Analyst during the time when 2ID was flagged as a Republic of Korea United States Combined Division (RUCD).
From 2012 to 2015, CW3 Rankin was stationed at Joint Base Lewis McChord (JBLM), WA serving for 4-2 and 2-2 Stryker Brigades. While at JBLM, he served as BISE Chief, Non-Lethal Targeting Chief, and IROC Training Warrant for multiple exercises in several countries. He also deployed to Afghanistan as Governance Chief working with Civil Affairs (S9) and Inform and Influence (S7).
During his enlisted career from 2000 to 2011, he served as Counterterrorism Analyst for East Africa, and J2 Analyst in the JOC at AFRICOM in Stuttgart, Germany from 2009 to 2011. He was also a BTIC Instructor in Botswana, Africa. Prior to that, he deployed with JSOC to Iraq as HUMINT Analyst From August 2000 to April 2007, he served in various reserve IT positions as system administration and cable dog (25B, 25L).
Prior to military, Mr. Rankin worked in Corporate World as Data Networking Engineer from 1988 to 2006. He is a graduate with a Bachelor's in Business from Gonzaga University 1988.
