Profile

Chief Warrant Officer Three (CW3) Northern enlisted in the Army as a 35S, Signals Collection Analyst in October 2010. Upon completion of Basic Training, she attended Advance Individual Training at Corry Station Pensacola, Florida, completing the Signal Collection Analyst course. She was the selected to attend the Joint Cyber Analysis Course (JCAC) reclassifying to 35Q, Cryptologic Network Warfare Specialist.

In 2012, CW3 Northern was assigned to the 744th MI Battalion, which became re-designated as the 781st MI Battalion under the 780th MI Brigade at Ft. Meade, Maryland. She served as a Cryptographic Network Warfare Sergeant for the National Security Agency, conducting advanced analysis of digital network intelligence. She was selected to serve as a Digital Network Exploitation Analyst on the Army’s first National Mission Team for the newly created Cyber Mission Force, developing intelligence products, contributing to some of the first cyberspace operations.

In 2014 she was assigned to 7th Signal Command, Cyber Mission Unit Provisional, later becoming the United States Army Cyber Protection Brigade. She served as an Interactive Network Operator on the Counter-Infiltration squad for 152 Cyber Protection Team. She was selected to move to the Brigade’s Cyber Fusion Center, where she worked with a small team to develop the Network Engineering Research and Development (N.E.R.D) Cell. As an Engineering Architect NCO, she created operational deployment guidance and procedures for the Defensive Cyber Operations Deployable Infrastructure, creating the initial Gunnery Tables for defensive cyberspace operations. Due to her experience with offensive and defensive cyberspace operations, she was selected by the Brigade Command Team to participate in the Subject Matter Expert Panel, working to later create the 17 series Cyber Branch.

In 2016 CW3 Northern was selected to attend Warrant Officer Candidate School as a Cyber Operations Technician, 170A. She went on to complete the first 170A Warrant Officer Basic Course at the US Army Cyber and Electronic Warfare School and was assigned to 782nd Military Intelligence Battalion. She served as the Operations Technical Lead, Mission Commander, and Senior Exploitation Analyst for 102CMT.

In 2019 she volunteered for an assignment at the US Army Cyber and Electronic Warfare School. She served as the Joint Curriculum Technical Advisor, supporting the DoD Executive Agent for Advanced Cyber Training (ACT) and USCYBERCOM Training Strategy developments for critical Cyber Mission Force (CMF) work roles. Offensive Cyberspace Operations curriculum supporting USYCBERCOM training initiatives.

CW3 Northern now serves as the J3 Senior Warrant Officer for Joint Force Headquarters-Cyber (JFHQ-C), and manages Offensive Cyberspace Operations to support USCYBERCOM and USCENTCOM operational objectives. She has earned a Master’s of Science in Digital Forensics and Cyber Investigation from the University of Maryland Global Campus, and Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice from University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC).
