Profile

Command Sergeant Major Jack Nichols became the Command Sergeant Major for Army Cyber Command In April 2021.Originally from Panama City, The Republic of Panama, CSM Nichols entered the Army in October 1989 and attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He then attended Advanced Individual Training as a 31C Single Channel Radio Operator at Fort Gordon, Georgia. After a short break in service from 1993 to 1994, CSM Nichols reclassified to become an 11B Infantryman and attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. He reverted back to Signal in 2000.

CSM Nichols has served as a Radio Team Chief, Infantry Rifle Team Leader, Infantry Rifle Squad Leader, Special Operations Detachment Chief, First Sergeant, Troop Sergeant Major, Battalion Command Sergeant Major, Brigade Command Sergeant Major, and U.S. Forces Command (FORSCOM) G6 Sergeant Major. He has served with the 524th Military Intelligence (MI) Battalion, 501st MI Brigade, Yongsan, Korea; 308th MI Battalion, 470th MI Brigade, Corozal, Panama; 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Lewis, Washington; Joint Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Joint Communications Unit, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Cyber Missions Unit (Provisional), Fort Gordon, Georgia; Cyber Protection Brigade, Fort Gordon, Georgia; and FORSCOM G6 SGM, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. CSM Nichols also supported Operation SAFE HAVEN in the Republic of Panama, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, and Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.

He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Management, has completed all levels of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System, and is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy. His military training also includes the Nominative Leaders Course, the First Sergeant Course, the Basic Airborne Course, the Static Line Jumpmaster Course, Ranger School, the Military Freefall Basic Course, the Military Freefall Jumpmaster Course, the Pathfinder Course, Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape (High Risk) Training, and the Special Operations Radio Operator Course.

CSM Nichols’ awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit (2OLCs), the Bronze Star (2 OLCs), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLCs), the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (3 OLCs), the Joint Service Achievement Award, and the Army Achievement Medal (3 OLCs). He has also been awarded the Combat Action Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, the Master Military Freefall Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, the Ranger Tab, the German Parachutist Badge, and the Romanian Parachutist Badge. In addition, SGM Nichols is the recipient of the Gold Saint Isidore Award and the Signal Corps Regimental Association Bronze Order of Mercury.

He is married to the former Carleen Garcia of Belen, New Mexico, and they have one daughter, Katie.
