Profile

Command Sergeant Major Ted Munter entered the U.S. Army in 1992 and served first as an Infantryman with the 25th Infantry Division (Light) in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and the III Corps Long Range Surveillance Company in Fort Hood, Texas.

In 1998, CSM Munter graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course and served as an Engineer Sergeant, Intelligence Sergeant, Operations Sergeant, Company Sergeant Major, Group Operations Sergeant Major, and Battalion Command Sergeant Major within 10th Special Forces Group, both at Fort Carson, Colorado, and Stuttgart, Germany. Prior to assuming his position as the Command Sergeant Major of 1st Special Forces Command (A), he served as the Command Sergeant Major for 1st Special Warfare Training Group (A) at the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School.

CSM Munter has deployed numerous times in support of operations Uphold Democracy, Joint Forge, Joint Guardian, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom. While serving on a specialized detachment CSM Munter deployed to Moscow, Russia; Baku, Azerbaijan; Sarajevo, Bosnia; Skopje, Macedonia; Ankara, and Istanbul, Turkey; and Tirana, Albania to fulfill critical Department of Defense and Department of State requirements. He also deployed in support of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, and served on an interagency team and the detail for the First Lady of the United States during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.

His awards and decorations include: the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with Valor device, Bronze Star Medal (4 OLC), Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Combat and Expert Infantryman Badges, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Master Military Freefall Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and multiple foreign partner nation jump wings.

He is also a recipient of the St. Philip Neri Medal, Bronze Order, the FBI Director’s Award, the National Clandestine Service Director’s Award, and a commendation from the Mississippi State legislature through House Concurrent Resolution 112.

CSM Munter holds a Bachelor’s degree from Thomas Edison State University, and is a graduate of the Joint Special Operations University Summit Course.

CSM Munter is married to the former Leigh Beth Galle of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and they have two adult sons.
