LEONARDO DRS AWARDED TOP PRIZE FOR INNOVATIVE C4I INTEGRATION SYSTEM
Honored with Platinum Status by 2020 Military & Aerospace Electronics Innovators Awards
ARLINGTON, VA, OCTOBER 16, 2020 ̶ Leonardo DRS, Inc. announced today that its Land Electronics business was recognized with a top award from the 2020 Military & Aerospace Electronics Innovators Awards for its C4I network integration Data Distribution Unit system.
Panelists from the aerospace and defense community awarded the Data Distribution Unit - Expandable (DDU-X) innovation its highest award, a Platinum honoree.
The Platinum award, the highest Military & Aerospace Electronics Innovators award honor, recognizes a superb innovation, characterized by a groundbreaking approach to meeting a need and a new level of performance, efficiency, ease-of-use or other beneficial quality, according to the award description.
“We are very proud to have received this respected award for our Data Distribution Unit,” said Bill Guyan, senior vice president and general manager of the Leonardo DRS Land Electronics business unit. “We continue to innovate our products to best enable network modernization objectives and provide mission critical capabilities that can be relied upon to our warfighters. More than 50,000 systems have already been delivered to US Army and International customers. The DDU-X, currently delivered as part of PM Mission Command’s Mounted Family of Computing Systems (MFoCS), can certainly enable the Army’s vison for Project Convergence.”
The DDU-X enables the convergence of multiple platform “edge” capabilities into one user-friendly tactical workstation, disseminating data across the network in near-real time. Using this next generation Mounted Mission Command computing and storage system, users can monitor, control and interact with the entire system simultaneously. The DDU-X meets requirements of US Army Vehicular Integration for C4ISR/EW Interoperability (VICTORY).
In addition, the DDU provides its own inherent vast array of capabilities, acting as a tactical router, voice cross banding and call management system, tactical server, network video distribution system, peripheral control/radio management/sensor interfaces and GPS distributor. It was designed into a small, efficient, rugged package with a modular design allowing for rapid upgrades rendering the DDU Unit essentially future-proof. Future planned enhancements include Assured-Position, Navigation and Timing (A-PNT), Generic Vehicle Architecture (GVA) and embedded Electronic Warfare capabilities.
“On behalf of the Military & Aerospace Electronics Innovators Awards, I would like to congratulate Leonardo DRS Land Electronics on their Platinum–level honoree status for the Data Distribution Unit,” said Military & Aerospace Electronics Editor in Chief John Keller. “This competitive program allows Military & Aerospace Electronics to celebrate and recognize the most innovative products impacting the aerospace and defense community this year.”
