Col Dennis H. Howell is the Commander, 480th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group, a team of 1,100 Airmen conducting National and Air Force cryptologic missions associated with CENTCOM, AFRICOM, EUCOM and SOCOM operations. Prior to his current assignment he served as Chief, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Division, 613th Air Operations Center, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, where he led a team of 83 ISR professionals providing the USINDOPACOM TJFACC, AOC, and subordinate units with timely, tailored intelligence, planning, execution, and assessment of airborne ISR operations, and target development and tactical assessment driving the Air Tasking Order cycle in peacetime and crises across the Indo-Pacific theater.
Col Howell was commissioned through the US Air Force Academy in 1997. He has held intelligence officer positions at the squadron, wing, numbered air force, major command, sub-unified command and multi-national headquarters levels. He commanded the 497th Operations Support Squadron at Distributed Ground Station-1, served as Wing Senior Intelligence Officer twice, as Director of Operations at the 15th Intelligence Squadron and at the 480th ISR Wing, and as Deputy Director of ISR at Seventh Air Force. Col Howell has deployed in support of US and Coalition operations in the Balkans, the Middle East, and Afghanistan, including Operations JOINT FORGE, ALLIED FORCE, SHINING HOPE, SOUTHERN WATCH, ENDURING FREEDOM, and IRAQI FREEDOM.
