M. Nanette Barnes is the Director of Career, Technical & Agricultural Education (CTAE) for the Richmond County School System, with more than 25 years of Career and Technical Education experience. Having served as a former classroom teacher and school administrator, she is a product of the Richmond County School System.
She has been active with the CTAE Directors’ state advisory board, Cybersecurity advisory board, Alliance for Cybersecurity Education (ACE), Students To Work summer intern program, the Citizen Review Panel for United Way of Augusta and Steering Committee Co-Chair for GA DOE Cybersecurity pathway development – just to name a few.
Under her leadership as Director of CTAE, she was instrumental in the development and opening of the Richmond County Technical Career Magnet School, the Cyber Academy of Excellence and the Marion E. Barnes Career Center. She has worked to establish several strong business partnerships to provide students and teachers with great opportunities for career awareness. For example, she has established a partnership with Automatic Data Processing (ADP) to assist in teaching CTAE students’ employability skills. She has created a strong partnership with the local Georgia Power leadership that provides tremendous support to the CTAE department of Richmond County Schools. In addition, she has worked with RCSS teachers to ensure that CTAE students have options and opportunities as they move towards the next chapter in their lives.
She is a member of a variety of professional, civic, and cultural organizations including Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., The Augusta Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, Advisory Board for the Augusta Partnership for Children, Inc., G.R.A.N.T Foundation Board of Directors, National Association of Educators (local and state affiliation) and the Association of Career and Technical Education (state affiliate).
In order to keep CTAE thriving in Richmond County, she looks to empower her staff to make an impact in the lives of students. She believes her leadership is about influencing teachers to provide the best CTAE experience for all students. Ms. Barnes is always an advocate for CTAE incorporating core Academics with technical and occupational skills to equip the next generation of students for successful entry into the workforce and post-secondary education.
