Brigadier General (BG) Urbi Lewis serves as the Director for Cybersecurity and the Headquarters Department of the Army Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), in the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) in Washington, D.C. In this role, she oversees policy development to secure Army data and information, leading and managing efforts for Zero Trust, Cyber Supply Chain Risk Management (C-SCRM) policies, and cybersecurity reform. BG Lewis represents the Army position on proposals initiated by the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Staff, and other forums, based on expert knowledge in the full range of threat informed cybersecurity policy matters, including risk identification, vulnerability reduction and effective mitigation to enable digital transformation and empower the warfighter.
BG Lewis entered the United States Army as a Private in the Army Reserve. She later earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems from Grambling State University. Recognized as a Distinguished Military Graduate, she was commissioned through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps as a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps. She holds a Juris Doctor from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School.
Prior to her tour in the OCIO, BG Lewis served as a Senior Officials Investigator in the Investigation Division, Department of the Army Inspector General. Key assignments include Senior Service College Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Chief Information Officer/G-6, Office of the Chief of the Army Reserve, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Signal Support and Automations Officer, FORSCOM Deputy Chief of Staff, G-6 (DCS, G-6), Fort McPherson, Georgia; Chief, Joint and Multi-Network Branch, Army Central Command, DCS, G-6 Fort McPherson, Georgia; Deputy, G-6, 91st Training Division, Fort Hunter Liggett, California; Executive Officer to the Deputy Commanding General (Operations), United States Army Reserve Command; Commander, 5th Battalion, Army Reserve Careers Division, Orlando, Florida; Battalion Executive Officer and S-3 for the Southwest Army Reserve Cyber Operations Group, Joint Base Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Small Extension Node Platoon Leader, Company B, 319th Signal Battalion, Camp Parks, California.
BG Lewis completed the Command and General Staff College; Combined Arms Exercise, Information Systems Management/Systems Automation Course; Signal Officer Advanced Course; Standard Communications Security Course; Signal Officer Basic Course; Basic Airborne Training; and Primary Leadership Development Course. BG Lewis’s military awards include the Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal (with 1 Silver Oak Leaf Cluster and 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters); Army Commendation Medal (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster); and an Army Achievement Medal.
BG Lewis is married to Mr. Shawn Lewis, and they have two daughters: Lailah and Elle.
