As technical director for the Defense Information Systems Agency Global Field Command, Ms. Drew Cooper resides as a member of the command group and is the organization’s recognized technical authority on IT, global information systems and operationalizing data. She aids the commander with complex command and control decision making directly pertaining to the operation and defense of the Department of Defense Information Network. She assures continued mission critical service delivery through network operations as well as the employment of advanced defensive cyber capabilities in support of the DISA-provided portfolio of networks and IT services that comprise the DODIN. Cooper provides the commander with expert-level counsel, advice and recommendations concerning all DODIN network operations functions, data modernization and operationalization efforts and the consideration/deployment of any new or emerging technologies into the enterprise.
DISA Global is the largest operational command within DISA and through the Orion Operations Center is responsible for operating and defending the transport layer network, DOD internet access points, security against email phishing attacks, and mid-tier Joint Regional Security Stack. DISA Global is also a premier service provider as an pperations service manager to over 80 programs and services as well as a cyber security service provider to many DOD components. DISA Global provides direct support to the White House, Pentagon, all combatant commands, services, and agencies within the DODIN infrastructure.
Cooper entered civil service in February 2014 after completing 10 years as a contractor working as a supervisor and lead subject matter expert in network engineering with time spent in satellite communications, voice and video capabilities, and software development. She also spent eight years of active-duty service in the U.S. Air Force. Her military assignments included a variety of high-paced and demanding experiences in the aircraft maintenance and communications and computer career fields. She was an avionics guidance and control specialist in the 71st Rescue Squadron at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, before cross-training into tech control. She was later assigned to the 868th Communications Squadron at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, where she supported the Air Mobility Command wide area network. She was also designated to lead many cross-functional teams during her career and deployed in support of operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom as part of the Global War on Terror.
Cooper holds two associates in avionics and electronic systems from the Community College of the Air Force and a bachelor’s in computer information systems and management from Park University, and actively studies leadership. She also has certificates in project management, women’s leadership from Darden Women’s Leadership Program, and high-performance team leadership from Washington University.
