Theater #3: Cyber Threats to Critical Infrastructure and the Impact to Military Readiness and Power Projection

Cyber threats to critical infrastructure pose significant risks to military readiness and power projection, as warfighters are more dependent than ever on these resources both inside and outside of their secured perimeter.  The connection between cyber threats and military readiness is universally recognized, yet serious vulnerabilities remain. Because national security depends on the resilience of local and regional critical infrastructure, gaps in cybersecurity within DOD and beyond can have far-reaching consequences.  This panel assembles a wide range of experts from government, industry, academia, and non-profits to discuss how each play a critical role in improving the cybersecurity posture of the critical infrastructure providers in and around DOD installations.

Attendees will learn about the current cyber threat landscape in critical infrastructure that has been exacerbated by IT-OT convergence, underinvestment in people and technologies, and the large gap that exists in cybersecurity assessments, resilience, and incident response capabilities.  With state and local governments and private sector critical infrastructure owners now expected to take on even more responsibilities in this realm, the panel will present real-world examples of how to mitigate the threats, fortify cyber resilience, and use partnerships to bridge current gaps, and enable military movement from fort to port.
