Dominic Davies

Chief of Science and Technology Knowledge Management Systems
UK MOD Defense Science and Technology Lab (Dstl) Strategy Portfolio and Capability Division

Profile

Dominic is the Chief of Science and Technology Knowledge Management Systems for the Defense Science and Technology Lab (Dstl).
After working in food analysis, construction, stage props and costume, Dominic studied Chemistry at the University of Essex. Following the successful completion of his undergraduate degree and PhD in 1998, he worked then worked in a range of research roles until 2002.
Since 2002 Dominic has worked in a range of roles in Knowledge and Information Management (KIM) in Dstl. In 2016, he was appointed to his current role.
During this time, Dominic has learnt that KIM is a complex subject. Though IT enables KIM, it needs much more than IT. To deliver high quality KIM activity you need people who value Knowledge and information, you need them to understand what knowledge needs managing, how to use the tools and techniques supplied to manage it and an organizational culture that supports KIM within its work. This belief has set the direction for the planning and delivery of the activities to improve KM in Dstl.
A study of the Dstl approach to KM was published in the KM Cookbook (Chris Collison, Paul Corney and Patricia Lee Eng) in March 2019. Dominic is a member of the UK committee for the ISO Knowledge Management standard (ISO30401).
