Prior to this assignment, Colonel Jared W. Snawder completed a year of studies at the United States Army War College. As an ROTC scholarship student, he received his commission as a Signal Officer from the Virginia Military Institute in 2000. He is a graduate of the Signal Officer Basic and Captain Career Courses, Air Assault School, and the Command and General Staff College.
Colonel Snawder’s previous non-command assignments include service as: a Battalion S6 for a Combat Heavy Engineer Battalion and an Apache Longbow Squadron; Network Engineer in the 11th Signal Brigade; Exchange Instructor with the Australian Defense Force School of Signals; Battalion S3 and Executive Officer for the 44th Expeditionary Signal Battalion in Germany and Operation Enduring Freedom; Deputy Division Chief for Blue/Hunt Operations at the National Security Agency; and Assistant Chief of Staff, G3/5/7 for the Network Enterprise Technology Command at Ft. Huachuca, AZ.
His command assignments include 24 months as Commander, 39th Strategic Signal Battalion, Chievres Air Base, Belgium providing communications support for the northern Europe Area of Operations and Atlantic Resolve-North rotational forces and 25 months as Commander, C Company, 86th Signal Battalion, Ft. Huachuca, AZ where he deployed to Iraq for 15 months in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Colonel Snawder holds a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College and a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Air Assault Badge, and the National Intelligence Meritorious Unit Citation. He is also a recipient of the Signal Corps Regimental Association’s Bronze Order of Mercury.
