Desmond Reid serves as the J5 deputy division chief for the Defense Information Systems Agency Operations, Plans, and Exercises Directorate. The DISA J5 Plans and Strategy Division conducts operational and strategic planning to develop the agency's cyberspace campaign plans and polices, supports U.S. Cyber Command and provides support to the combatant commanders in the development of global, theater, and contingency cyberspace plans to meet the agency's commitment to fight and win in cyberspace.
Prior to his current role, Reid served as the deputy operations director of Joint Forces Headquarters Department of Defense Information Network (DODIN). In that position, he coordinated, processed, and resourced capabilities to enable command and control of global DODIN operations and defense to protect DOD in cyberspace.
Before joining DISA, Reid served as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. His last active-duty position was the director of Information Maneuver Division at the Marine Corps Headquarters, where he was responsible for service-level policy, programs, strategy, and resourcing of information warfare capabilities and communities to meet current and future warfighting requirements. During his military career, Reid held diverse staff and leadership positions across telecommunications, intelligence, information warfare support, and joint specialty roles.
Reid earned a bachelors in political science and philosophy from Syracuse University. At the U. S. Army War College, he earned a master’s in strategic studies and received a Military Officers Association of America writing award.
