Profile

Kevin Tate is the Department of Defense Office of the Chief Information Officer (DoD CIO) lead for the delivery of end-user capabilities and enterprise service across the Department.

In this role, he provides oversight of the enterprise level strategy and acquisition that includes: office productivity, email and collaboration; business voice and video; and, command and control (C2) voice solutions.

Kevin has maintained a consistent presence and voice advocating and advancing essential enterprise elements and cloud based solutions across the Department of Defense to provide enhanced collaboration and greater access to information.
Most recently, Kevin played a key leadership role in the Department-wide deployment of DoD365 which included successfully migrating over 2.7 million users within twelve months to a DoD-centric Microsoft 365 cloud environment.

He has been a driving force to align the DoD IT acquisition to the President’s Management Agenda that seeks to streamline acquisition efforts in support of the whole of government. In that role and in partnership with the General Service Administration (GSA), he facilitated transition of over 2 million users to the Defense Enterprise Office Solution (DEOS) Blanket Purchase Agreement within 12 months of contract award.

Prior to assuming his current position, he served as the DoD CIO lead for Defense Information Systems Network (DISN) Transport and Unified Capabilities modernization efforts. Before joining the DoD CIO, Kevin was the Director of Operations for the Integrated-Electronic Health Records Program, and also served as lead acquisition oversight analyst for the DoD software-defined networking radio programs.

Kevin Tate served in the U.S. Army as a Signal Officer for twenty years. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Old Dominion University and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Argosy University. Additionally, he is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College and the Senior Executive Fellows Program, John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Kevin is a 2019 FED100 recipient and a 2020 DOD CIO Cyber and IT Excellence Team awardee.
