Profile

Jason Mackanick is the Branch Chief for the DISA Cyber Standards Risk Management Executive branch. Upon serving in the U.S. Navy for 6 years as a fire control man for the Aegis Weapon System, he graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems. Several years were spent in the defense and telecom industry working for Lockheed Martin, Bell Labs and Telecordia Technologies. Jason has served at DISA since 2005 as a consultant and federal employee. He authored the UNIX and DNS STIGS, maintained automated shell scripts for determining compliance, and lead the initial efforts to transition to Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) benchmark development. Progressing to the technical director at DISA, he was responsible for synchronizing security guidance across all technologies written by the Cyber Standards branch. As the branch chief, Jason is now responsible for the oversight of all resources for authoring security guidance and writing automation for compliance and enforcement and remediation mechanisms for DoD information systems.
