Imran Umar is a senior cyber solution architect spearheading zero trust initiatives across Booz Allen in support of the Department of Defense (DOD), federal civilian agencies, and the intelligence community.

Imran provides technical solutions that enable organizations to move towards a resilient zero trust architecture by applying unique tradecraft to determine their current zero trust maturity status, identifying key gaps in their architecture, and developing tailored solutions to transition them towards a data-centric security model that enforces least privileged access. Imran works to advance the adoption and fusion of concepts such as zero trust, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to improve cyber resiliency at an enterprise scale. He specializes in advanced zero trust concepts such as secure access service edge (SASE) and security service edge (SSE) that enable conditional access and incorporate data-centric zero trust design principles.

Imran led the development of the Zero Trust Maturity Assessment capability mapped back to the NIST security controls and MITRE ATT&CK framework and successfully applied it in support of DoD and Federal Civilian agencies. Working with a team of ZT engineers, Imran led the development of a data centric ZT architecture for mission partners to conduct data discover, data tagging, labeling and applied attribute Based Access Controls to determine access to resources. Imran leads the design and architecture of the DISA Thunderdome pilot implement Zero Trust capabilities at the Pentagon, FT MEADE and the INDOPAC region. These Zero Trust capabilities include a Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) solution, Customer Edge Security Stack (CESS) and a Cyber Operational Environment that utilizes ML/AI and streaming analytics for threat detection. Imran is leading the design of a tactical SASE solution that provides Zero Trust Conditional Access capabilities in a completed disconnected environment. He leads a team of cybersecurity analysts, conducting zero trust maturity assessments for large enterprises. He also is the Booz Allen technical lead overseeing the DOD transition toward a zero trust architecture.
