LTC James Lacovara is currently serving as the Chief of Current Operations within the Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) Division. His team is responsible for coordinating 24x7 DCO across DISA's Enterprise and supporting Joint Force Headquarters DODIN in protecting the Defense Information System Network. His team serves as the focal point to maintain situational awareness, coordinate, synchronize, prioritize, and direct the security and defense of the Agency’s Area of Operations for the DODIN and the Agency’s enterprise infrastructure.

LTC Lacovara joined DISA in 2018 as the Deputy Chief of Current Operations in the DCO Division. He has served in the Army for 19 years and was commissioned as a Signal Corps officer in 2002. After graduating from the Signal Officer Basic Course, he was assigned as a Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in the 501st Signal Battalion, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). He also served as the Battalion S6 for the 1-187 Infantry Regiment. During this time, LTC Lacovara deployed twice to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom providing communications during combat operations.

Following the Signal Captain’s Career Course, LTC Lacovara commanded a Wideband Satellite Operations Center in the 53rd Signal Battalion (SATCON) at Camp Roberts, CA. He was selected as an Instructor of Economics at the United States Military Academy at West Point where he attained the academic rank of Assistant Professor during his tenure. In 2014, LTC Lacovara was assigned to the 39th Signal Battalion in Belgium where he served as both the Battalion S3 and Executive Officer. Prior to his assignment at DISA he completed an Inter-Agency Fellowship assignment at the National Security Agency.
