The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) is responsible for maintaining the security posture of the Department of Defense (DoD) IT infrastructure.  The DISA Risk Management Executive Cyber Standards branch accomplishes this task is by developing Security Technical Implementation Guides, or "STIGs."  The guides provide IT Administrators, Risk Accreditors and Assessors, and Information Security Managers prose checklists for securing their IT software assets in accordance with DoD and federal standards.  In addition, automated tools using the Security Content Automation Protocols (SCAP) are provided by the developers to assist in compliance validation.  Secure configuration management tools which utilize PowerShell, Chef, Ansible, etc. are also distributed for further assistance in building IT assets from a secure baseline configuration.
