Lt Col David Merritt, USAF

Profile

David Merritt is the Test & Prototype Branch Chief in the Applied Research and Development Division of U.S. Cyber Command’s Capabilities Development Group. In this role, he leads Cyber Command’s capability assessment and experimentation efforts, helping bridge the gap between research and operations. David is an active duty officer in the U.S. Air Force. During his 15 years in the Air Force, he has performed in education, training, program management, research and development, and cyber warfare roles. David is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force’s Undergraduate Network Warfare Training course and is a former member of the Air Force Computer Emergency Response Team (AFCERT). At the AFCERT, David commanded a 40-person team responsible for preventing, detecting, and responding to network intrusions against the Air Force. Prior to his current role, David was Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of Michigan, a M.S. in Computer Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and a B.S. in Computer Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is married with three daughters.
